Olivia Chatterley describes her time co-leading the JMS choir last year and encourages anyone to join the welcoming community.

I have absolutely loved co-leading the JMS Choir this year and enjoyed the opportunities to perform. We had the privilege of singing at John’s formals, a nativity production, a memorial, a college BBQ and even in the Cathedral. There is something so special about coming together for an evening, singing beautiful tunes and rich lyrics. The choir has been known for singing predominantly choral music, but, this year, we have incorporated gospel and contemporary worship songs too, like Stuart Townend’s arrangement of Psalm 23.
Being part of the choir is an amazing way to meet new people and grow in friendship. If you are debating whether to join the choir next year, why not? “I have no sight-reading experience” I hear you say? That’s fine. Not enough time to commit to a busy choir? It is only one hour rehearsal a week! This is the perfect option for you if you enjoy singing but don’t have the experience or time necessary to commit to another college or university choir. I’ve loved it so much that many of the members will be singing at my wedding this summer!
Here is the experience of one of the members, Alexander:
“Most of all I have enjoyed meeting on a weekday evening with likeminded people to sing together and enjoy each other’s company. It has always been an interesting, friendly, kind group of people, who have made me feel loved. There is something so joyful about singing together in harmony with a group of people that is a real manifestation of coming together and engaging with each other to form one beautiful sound.”
