John’s Chronicle Deputy Editor, Dan Bavister, provides a Photo Gallery for the 2023 Bailey Ball, one of the highlights of the John’s events calendar. Featuring exclusive images kindly provided in collaboration with Grant Kuppenheimer.

Old friends reunited to enjoy a spectacular night.
The Bailey Ball provided much-needed light relief for students and staff alike, to enjoy good drinks and great company in college.
Johnians converse over drinks in the John’s gardens.
The glamorous guests had a great night, which included drinks among the trees and topiary of the St John’s gardens.

Vibrant bands struck up rich symphonies, blending classic jazz notes with an edgy modern twist. Featuring mainstays of the Durham student band scene, such as Ivies, Orchard Thieves and Kinky Jeff and the Swingers.
The Old Library was transformed into a cocktail bar, offering a wide range of tailor-made classic drinks, such as the Blue Lagoon and Sex on the Beach.
Famous faces: Dan Bavister, the Deputy Editor of the John’s Chronicle (left), is joined by John Manalo, Captain of the St John’s Men’s Badminton Team (right).
The ‘Ents’ (entertainments) included fun games in the marquee for guests to enjoy into the early hours at the Ball.
Chocoholics at St John’s were satiated by a chocolate fountain and candy floss stand.

The bar team worked hard until four o’clock in the morning to ensure everyone in attendance had a very good night indeed.

Live singers sparked up in Leech Hall, to entertain the guests through the night.

The glamorous guests at the Ball danced the night away in Leech Hall until the early morning sunrise brought an end to the night’s festivities.
